One of a Kind Pet Rescue: Hidden Gem of Akron 9-29-16

I encourage everyone to adopt from this shelter. It’s a non-profit organization that is funded by donations. From its website, oneofakindpets.com, this is its mission statement: “One of a Kind Pet Rescue is dedicated to the rescue and adoption of homeless pets in imminent danger of euthanasia, spaying/neutering, and public education in the humane treatment of animals.”
This is what I love about this shelter – by going in the rooms and interacting with the cats and dogs, you can get a sense of the animals’ personalities before you choose one that best suits you.
There is a hallway with rooms on each side and each room houses a group of cats. The shelter also features a large front room with a tall, spiraling cat tower. This room holds the most cats. The dogs are kept in separate rooms, but you can ask to visit them in their rooms. Kittens are kept in smaller crates and puppies are kept in fenced-in areas on the floor.
The shelter also carries a range of pet toys, food dishes, leashes, and brushes.
Last semester during finals week I was feeling overwhelmed. I stopped in here to calm down and pet some cats before heading home to continue studying. It’s the same idea as when there are therapy pets at Bierce Library during finals week, except at One of a Kind, you have the animal all to yourself to cuddle.
You’ve been warned. Don’t blame me if you go and fall in love with an animal.
