The University of Akron was held scoreless when the women’s soccer team took to the pitch at Kent State and Buffalo this weekend. Akron started the weekend by traveling to nearby Kent State. The game was played on a muddy, slippery field that had some fans, along with officials, wondering if the game should have been moved to Dix Stadium (Kent State’s football stadium). Nevertheless, both school officials decided to play the game at the scheduled spot.

Zips volleyball team goes 1-1 homecoming weekend

The University of Akron volleyball team hosted Ohio University Friday at the JAR, falling in straight sets 22-25, 16-25, and 20-25. The Zips now have a record of 3-15, 0-5 in MAC play. While Ohio University’s record improves to 13-6, the Bobcats are also undefeated in conference play at 5-0 and have not lost a set in conference play this year.

The Akron women’s soccer team will hit the road again this weekend for what may be their toughest road trip of the season. Akron (4-4-1, 2-1-1 MAC) will face Mid-American Conference opponents Ball State (8-4-1, 3-1-0 MAC) and Toledo (6-5-2, 4-0-0 MAC) on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The two are co-favorites to win the MAC West title this year.

The Akron Zips were able to get their record back to .500 with a 2-0 win against Eastern Illinois over the weekend. The Zips, who came into the contest with a 2-3 record, improved to 3-3 due to sophomore midfielder Kelly DeNiro and senior midfielder Rachel Phillip, who each scored one goal. Jenny Wolbert captured her second consecutive shutout and fourth overall.
