This past weekend, The University of Akron Dance Department held their annual student production, Choreographer’s Workshop.

Every year, the concert plays host to the students’ imaginations. Everything from the choreography to the lighting and backstage work is presented by the students of the dance department.

This year’s performance showcased the choreography of twelve student choreographers. These students were all dancers who had already completed one level of choreography class and had committed to creating and rehearsing a full piece of dance.

The performance at the Paul A. Daum Theater occurred over Thursday, Friday and Saturday and featured a variety of dance styles from ballet to modern, tap, hip-hop and break-dancing.

Charity also played a role in this year’s show. A discount of $2 was given for anyone who brought two canned goods to the box office to donate. The Department collected a record number of canned goods this year, all of which will go to the Akron Food Pantry.

I really enjoyed the program and was impressed by the student’s work, said Lindsay Powley, a UA student who attended the performance.

The University of Akron Dance Company will be performing again at Daum Theater Nov. 18-20 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 21 at 2 p.m.
