Rain, rain, go away.
The University of Akron-Youngstown State University game was halted due to rain throughout Wednesday’s forecast in Youngstown.
The Zips were looking to rebound from a dismal performance at the University of Pittsburgh where they fell 17-5, but Youngstown rain had other ideas.
UA will continue their road trip with a three-game conference series against the Eastern Michigan University Eagles beginning Friday.
The Eagles are 4-21 overall and 0-6 in the MAC going in to Wednesday’s game at the Cleveland State University Vikings.
Tom Farmer will get the start for the Zips in the first game of the series on Friday.
Farmer, a senior captain, has a record of 1-4 on the season with an ERA of 6.75. Farmer leads the club with 30 strikeouts on the 2009 campaign.
The Zips will start fellow senior captain Frank Turocy in Game 2 on Saturday.
Turocy will look to build on his start against the University of Toledo, where he went seven strong innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits, striking out six.
The Zips’ starting pitcher for the series finale on Sunday has yet to be decided.
Zips head coach Pat Bangtson said that he hopes the Zips can begin to turn the season around and get a series win versus the Eagles.
Bangston said, Our goal is to win every series we play and, if we can, try to sweep.
