Zips bid farewell to senior swimmers

The University of Akron swimming and diving team said farewell to their seniors Friday evening at their final regular season meet at the Ocasek Natatorium.

The Zips lost to Bowling Green by a score of 175-117.

The University of Akron swimming and diving team finished up the season with an overall record of 3-5 and 0-4 with the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The BGSU Falcons obtained a record of 3-5 and 1-4 in the MAC.

The Lady Zips did not lose without a fight; Ashley Drazkowski achieved first place in the 500 Freestyle in 5:05.12. Catherine Carr had three second-place finishes in the 200 Butterfly (2:05.51), 100 Butterfly (57.77), and 400 Individual Medley (IM) (4:26.47). Carla McNamara dove a 304.45 in a one meter dive and a 307.75 in a

three meter. The Falcons decided not to compete in the diving events.

Senior Hannah Raspopovich finished in second place in the 50 Freestyle event at 24.02. Fellow senior, Kelsea Cross, achieved a 58.90 second finish in the 100 Breaststroke.

The Zips also snagged several third place finishes: Kelsey Ferrante in the 100 and 200 Backstroke, Amanda Lawson in the 200 Breastroke, Kendra Colby in the 100 Breaststroke, and Drazwoski in the 200 Freestyle.

The Zips team members are Jessica Breymier, Kelsea Cross, Becca Emerich, Courtney Fischbach, Molly Raspopovich, Rachel Hunsinger, Hannah Raspopovich, Rachel Szymkowiak, and Rebecca Zimmer.

The Lady Zips next compete in the MAC championship, hosted by the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. on Thursday, Feb. 28 through Sunday, March 3.
