The University of Akron women’s softball team advanced to a three game winning streak over the weekend as they split a series with Northern Illinois 1-1, and swept Western Michigan 2-0.
The Zips faced off against Nothern Illinois in a double header last Friday. In game one the Zips fell 3-0, however they rallied back in game two to defeat the Huskies 7-5 in game two.
The Lady Zips traveled to Kalamazoo Mich. to play the Western Michigan Broncos in back-to-back games. In game one the Bison went scoreless, as Akron defeated Buffalo 5-0. Game two was slighly closer for the Bison, however the Zips were still able to pull of the win 4-2.
Freshman Shawna Hochstetler and sophomore Rachael Ratcliffe both hit homeruns during Sunday’s victory over Western Michigan.
Freshman pitcher Erin Seiler advanced to 15-17 on the season, where she posted six strikeouts in the final game of the weekend.
With the wins, the Zips move to 7-11 on the season in conference play, and 21-25 overall.
The Lady Zips are in the final stretch of the season with seven games remaining. Though it will be difficult for the Zips to reach the top of the conference, they are still in contention for a seed in the Mid-American Conference championship tournament.
The Zips face MAC opponents Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan this weekend.
