Akron golf hosting Firestone Invitational
October 8, 2013
The University of Akron is, again, hosting the Firestone Invitational.
The event started Monday morning and will conclude Tuesday.
There has always been a large number of golf teams that play in the Akron event. Firestone Country Club is considered to be one of the most prestigious golf courses in the country.
The teams that are plying this year are Golfstat’s No. 5 USC-Aiken (DII), No. 67 Washington State, No. 69 Samford, No. 85 Davidson, No. 86 Saint Mary’s College of Charleston, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Illinois State, Kansas State, Nebraska, Old Dominion, Western Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio University.
Last season, the Zips finished fourth at the event.
The Zips have struggled this season. The team played in a tournament in California last week and came in last. However, they won the third day of the tournament they competed in before it. They finished third out of 12 the first two days.
Akron players competing in the event are Charlie Bull, J.B. Williams, Zach Gollwitzer, Carr Vernon, Louis Birchall, Harry Whittle, Ryan Harris and Chandler Morgan.
