Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman of Discovery Channel’s long-running series “MythBusters” intrigued the audience of EJ Thomas Hall Thursday evening when they brought their “Behind the Myths” tour to Akron.

The tour is a live stage show where the hosts perform on-stage experiments, share behind-the-scenes stories from their TV show, and invite audience members to join them in explaining how the world works.

According to the website mythbusterstour.com, “for the first time ever, fans will join Jamie and Adam on stage and assist in their mind-twisting and not always orthodox approach to science.”

Savage and Hyneman said that the idea of MythBusters were born out of simple questions that people ask, and sometimes the more complex. For example, if a child is jumping on a bed and there is a ceiling fan, will the fan decapitate them?

Since the TV show began in 2003, Savage and Hyneman, along with co-hosts Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara, have tested 769 myths, according to discovery.com.

Throughout the program, the duo performed various acts, such as lying on a bed of nails, and demonstrated how some of their equipment works, like their high-speed cameras. Savage said that many think that what they do may take away the mystery of the act, like how a person can lie on a bed of nails without getting punctured, which makes it less cool.

“I think learning a little bit more about the world is the coolest thing of all,” he said.
