In the ’70s, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong shocked the world with their satirical, counter-culture comedy.

Now a quarter of a century later the highly acclaimed frontrunners of cannabis comedy are back with their comedy tour Light Up America and will be performing at E.J. Thomas Hall tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at E.J.’s box office and range from $35-$45.

Between 1972 and 1985 this iconic duo blazed their way across multiple forms of entertainment including movies, television and comedy albums that helped define an era. Cheech and Chong released nine comedy albums including Big Bambu which was the biggest selling comedy record of all time in 1972, and Los Cochinos which won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album in 1973. They also wrote, directed and starred in eight hit films such as the box-office smash Up in Smoke which grossed $100 million and the title of highest grossing comedy of 1978.

Now Cheech and Chong are back and wittier than ever on their first tour in 25 years. Even though it has been a while since the duo have worked together, you wouldn’t know it. Critics say that Cheech and Chong never lost their chemistry and are picking up right where they left off with Light Up America.

Despite lots more gray or missing hair, it’s like the party never stopped . . . the impeccable comic timing remains, Erik Penderson of the Hollywood Reporter said.

Critics everywhere also seem to agree that the show contains great blasts of old and new material. The comedy is as effective as ever as audiences have welcomed the beloved duo back with much enthusiasm and plenty of sold-out shows.

Cheech and Chong have big plans to make their comeback a success with the thought that their racy, green-leaf gags can be funny to both Baby Boomers and Generations X and Y. Next year they will be performing another tour Get it Legal which will focus on poking fun of the nation’s drug laws and Chong’s previous incarceration. They are also in the process of making another film that will be released in 2010.

So go and get a hit of the pioneers of stoner stand-up Cheech Marin and Tony Chong this Friday Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. at E.J. Thomas. Tickets are on sale now at E.J.’s box office and prices range from $35-$45 per person. It is sure to be a dope time!
