New UA president to be inducted Friday

The University of Akron’s new president, Scott Scarborough, will be officially introduced on Friday, Sept. 19. This will be the first time the university has inducted a new president in 15 years.
The investiture is open to the public and will include musical performances and a community reception which begins at 3:30 p.m. on the plaza at E.J. Thomas Hall.
President Scarborough will speak to those in attendance with an address titled “The Power and the Promise of Public Higher Education.”
The investiture ceremony takes place at 4:30 p.m. inside of E.J. Thomas Performance Art Hall and is expected to last about one hour.
The event is free to attend and students are encouraged to come as they are. Those who wish to attend are encouraged to reserve a seat online through the investiture event’s tab on the university’s website. It is not a ticketed event.
