The women’s soccer team (8-6-2) dominated in weekend play by defeating the Buffalo Bulls (3-14-1) and arch rival the Kent State Golden Flashes (7-8-2) to put there win streak to five.

On Friday the night the Zips traveled to Buffalo to defeat the Bulls 2-0.

This was a great win and probably the biggest win in Women’s soccer history, head coach Chris Pfau said. In the fact that this win qualified us for the conference tournament for the first time.

Stats for the Bulls was two shots by Taylor Thompson and one shot on goal by Aubrey Stahl. Other key stats was one shot a piece by Stephanie Velez, Jennifer Mihok, Katie Kerr and Lindsey Bailey.

Goaltending for the Bulls was Amy Coron who had six saves for the game.

Scoring first for the Zips was Katie Wise which would give the Zips the lead for the rest of the game.

Getting that first goal sometimes is the hardest thing and she plays with so much energy and to be rewarded was good to see, Pfau said.

Scoring the second goal which would extend the lead for the Zips was Britini Back.

She has had so many chances and now is getting frustrated and I am hoping that this will make things easier for her going into conference tournament, Pfau said.

Key stats for the Zips was three shots a piece by Rachel Phillip, Ashley Hughes and Britini Back.

Goaltending for the Zips was Jeny Wolbert who had one save for the game.

On Sunday the Zips came back to Ohio to defeat arch rival Kent State 1-0.

This was to me the best win of the season and not because it was Kent or the rivalry, but after we qualified on Friday night we could have just packed it in, Pfau said. Kent is one of the toughest places to play because of their field and you have to battle and compete for 90 minutes and for us to do that was great to see.

Stats for the Golden Flashes were three shots for Annie Messer. Kellyn Flanagan, Beth Diederich, Megan Repas and Kelly Heaton had two shots a piece.

Goaltending for the Golden Flashes was Kelly Sherwood who had four saves for the game.

Scoring the only goal in the game was Zips Jordan Clark, which would become the game winner.

One of the best goals of the season and this was a first class finish, Pfau said.

Key stats for the Zips was four shots from Britini Back. Jordan Baranowski had two shots. Leigh Cullen, Rachel Phillip, Kate Ferrara and Andrea Schweisthal had one shot a piece.

It was another dominating performance by Zips goaltender Jeny Wolbert who had two saves for the game. Jeny Wolbert also received MAC defensive player of the week honors with Central Michigan Shay Mannino .

Jeny has matured and become a true leader for our backs and she is steady, makes the saves she needs to and throughs in some mericles, and when a keeper does that she is hard to beat, Pfau said.

The Zips play their last regular season game on Thursday against the Ohio Bobcats home at Lee Jackson Field.
