A pool of emotions

The swimming and diving team competed in two conference meets on the road this past weekend. On Friday, Oct. 31 the Zips faced Eastern Michigan, and on Nov. 1 they swam against Ball State. UA split the weekend with a loss against Eastern Michigan, but came back with a nail biter win against Ball State.
Eastern Michigan blew out Akron on Friday, winning by a score of 223-77. In this meet, the Zips Luka Szynal came up with two wins against the Eagles, taking both the 100 and 200 backstroke.
Saturday’s meet in Ball State came down to the wire as each team picked up eight victories in the sixteen total events. However, UA prevailed as the victors by a margin of three points, 151.5-148.5. Szynal came out just as dominate as she did on Friday, again winning the 100 and 200 backstroke.
The first victory for the day came from a 200 medley relay made up of Ashley Niznik, Amanda Lawson, Erin Seiler, and Hannah Raspopovich. In the 1,000 free, UA’s Kara Kaulius and Natalie O’Brien finished in the top two spots. Seiler, a member of the relay, also took home top honors in her three individual events, the 200 fly, 100 fly and 200 IM. Raspopovich came in with the final individual victory of the day, edging Ball State’s Carlena Magley in the 50 free by one one-hundredth of a second.
The Zips have some time off for a cool down lap before heading up to compete in the Magnus Cup Invitational held at Cleveland State University of Nov. 21-23.
