The Wedding Singer, originally a movie starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, has now been made into a Broadway musical which will be playing at E.J. Thomas Oct. 23-24. The Wedding Singer is romantic, hilarious and musical all in one.
The story is set is in Ridgefield, New Jersey in 1985. The main character, Robbie Heart, is Jersey’s own wedding singer, but his future wife abandons him at the altar on their wedding day.
Because of this misfortune, Robbie’s goal is to make everybody’s wedding a living hell. His bad luck takes a turn for the worse when he falls in love with a young waitress who’s already engaged to a jerk who works on Wall Street.
Robbie will lose the girl he has been waiting his whole life for, unless he can pull off the performance of a lifetime.
The Wedding Singer is full of ’80s inspired songs including Casualty of Love, Saturday Night in the City and If I Told You, which will make you wish your hair was a bit bigger and make you want to pop your collar. Performers include, J. Michael Zygo as Robbie Hart and Jillian Zygo as Julia Sullivan, who are married in real life.
This show has been nominated for five Tony awards including best musical, best book of a musical, best original score, best actor in musical and best choreography.
It is a great weekend activity to get away from the cold October weather and to also get your mind off of school.
It will be playing at E.J. Thomas on Oct. 23 at 8:00 p.m. and also on Oct. 24 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and are priced from $32.50-$52.50, with a student rush on ticket prices starting on the 16 and lasting until show day for $15.
Tickets can be purchased at the E.J. Thomas ticket booth, which is open weekdays 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
