On Tuesday, Nov. 18, the Zips women basketball took the court and remained undefeated for the season at 3-0.

During the game, the Zips and the visitor, Northern Iowa Panthers, were close throughout the game and the final buzzard range at 82-73, in favor of the Zips. The crowd of 1,200 people were in full support of the Zips and let them hear it with every shot. In fact, Akron had three Zips who scored in double figures and also rebounding the ball 39 times throughout the game. Akron also took a defensive mindset when they were down, close to half, and didn’t allow a point for close to five minutes, leading to Akron to tie the score up at 33 in the second half.

The game concluded with a 10-3 run over the last three minutes which allowed the Zips to secure their victory over their toughest game yet of the season.

Other statistics:

Akron finished the game with just six turnovers, but got the Panthers to make a mistake 15 times during the matchup. The team was outshot 40-42 percent but the Zips prevailed with 25 points off turnovers. Both teams ended the game tied in  points with 34 and eight bench points.

Sina King finished with 27 points and 5-8 from the three-point line. Anita Brown and Kerri McMahan also played well in the victory with a combined 32 points in the game. Diandra Gibson tied the game and led in rebounds with 11 and seven points.

Next up for the Zips are the Crusaders of Valparaiso University, Tuesday Nov. 25. This game will be at the JAR with tip-off at 7 p.m.
