Golf reaches the end

The men’s golf team finished their regular season on Sunday with a twelfth place finish at the 2015 Irish Creek on the par-71, 7,099-yard Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C.
After day one, the Zips sat in twelfth with a 36 hole score of 586 (+18). North Florida sat as the leader with a score of 561 (-7).
For Akron, Yan Pfeiffer led the way and ended the day tied for nineteenth at 143 (+1) with rounds of 1-under 70 and 2-over 73. Louie Birchall sat at 27th with a score of 145 (+3). He had rounds of 2-over 73 and 1-over 72. To round out the scoring five, J.B. Williams was tied for 47th at (148, +6), George Baylis was tied for 59th (150, +8), and Ryan Harris was tied for 73rd (154, +12).
The weekend concluded after day two when Louis Birchall made a jump to finish tied for 23rd with a score of 217 (+4). Pfeiffer dropped to 38th after his round of 7-over 78. Williams had his third round of 3-over 74 and moved up to tie for 41st (222, +9). Baylis also moved up with a round of 4-over 75 to finish in 56th with a score of 225 (+12). Harris rounded out the scoring five by dropping to 75th (232, +19).
As a team, the Zips finished the weekend with a total score of 885 (+33). South Florida came in first with an overall team score of 853 (+1) followed by North Florida (+2) and Kennesaw State (+4). Individually, North Florida’s Taylor Hancock, South Florida’s Rigel Fernandes, and Kennesaw State’s Fredrik Nilehn tied for first with a score of 208 (-5).
The Mid-American Conference Championship will take place May 1 through 3 at the Mayfield Sand Ridge Club in Chardon, Ohio.
