Get excited-I know I am.
Because faithful readers, we have survived the spring.
We’ve trudged through the muck and grime of low budget lack-lusters and ridiculously tired remakes.
We’ve risen above the temptation to waste time and money on the lesser films that plague our society in the dark hour of Hollywood.
And to those who have ascended to new heights of appreciation for the finer points in film enjoyment, take heed, for the hour is finally upon us.
The Tomato-meter is in (check out Rottentomatoes.com to learn more) on these few films here at the end of April and there is a definite promise of success in the week to come.
Here are a few highlights of the upcoming weekend.
The hilariously estrogen-charged duo from Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, team up in a movie about motherhood, and those who should never attempt it. Tina Fey and Amy Pohler star in Baby Mama.
Already garnering two thumbs up from critics across the nation, Mama also unites the talents behind SNL’s success, Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn.
Kate Holbrook (Fey) is a working girl. She’s excelled in her career and has been driven to succeed for years.
But, her family life has suffered because of her drive. After resolving to bring life into this world, Kate finds that her efforts may be in vain.
She just can’t get pregnant.
Bummer.
But enter Pohler as Angie Ostrowiski to play a dodgy surrogate.
If that’s not a brilliant conception, I don’t know what is.
Angie is without a home and must move into the immaculate home of over-organized and hyper-nesting Kate.
What ensues can only be hilarity.
Here you have two women who play the perfect antithesis of Judd Apatow’s recent films praising the masculine and sustaining the box office with all that is Man.
With near perfect comedic timing and hilarious banter from both stars, Mama has got to be more fun than a set of stirrups.
This weekend also offers up a darker side of sex and success in Deception.
What do you get when you blend a little sex with a whole lot of pretext and fraud?
No, Hillary, not your husband’s presidency.
When an accountant is dragged into a world of lust and lies by his suave and business savvy lawyer friend, Jonathan McQuarry realizes he got more than he had bargained for.
Following one of these anonymous nights of passion, the woman named S goes missing.
Jonathan is the prime suspect for the disappearance.
In a series of twists and turns, furor and fornication, Deception is sure to hold you to your seat with powerhouse performances by Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams.
