Women’s Volleyball
On Tuesday, the Mid-American Conference selected junior Amanda Bedell as its MAC East Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. Bedell led Akron with 54 kills and a .416 attack percentage as the Zips went 2-1 this past weekend at the Holiday Inn Invitational. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Akron (6-4) will round out its non-conference schedule this weekend with a doubleheader at Morehead State on Friday, Sept. 18. The Zips will take on Samford at 10:30 a.m. and MSU at 2:30 p.m. in Morehead, Kentucky.
Women’s Soccer
The Zips women’s soccer team hits the road for Nashville, Tennessee to take part in the Lipscomb Invitational. The Zips will play the host, Lipscomb, on Thursday at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, the Zips battle against UT Martin at 5 p.m. Akron (3-2-1) is looking to break a two-game losing streak. “Our players are confident and have shown great determination so far this season and that hasn’t changed. We know being tested is all part of a gaining a winning mindset,” first-year coach Noreen Herlihy said.
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country
The men’s and women’s cross country teams hit the road this weekend and travel to Blacksburg, Virginia to compete in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational. The women’s 6k race will start at 6 p.m. with the men’s 8k race at 6:40 p.m.
Men’s Golf
The men’s golf team has the weekend off, but will travel to Toledo for the Inverness Intercollegiate that will span Monday and Tuesday of next week at the Inverness Golf Course. Competing in the field with Akron are teams from the following schools: California, Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), East Tennessee State, Ohio State, Michigan, Purdue, Yale, Michigan State, Mercer, Kent State, Miami, Northern Illinois, Austin Peay and host Toledo.
