Men’s Golf
The University of Akron men’s golf team wrapped up the fall season with a fifth-place finish at the Outer Banks Intercollegiate hosted by Old Dominion University. Akron ended the 54-hole event at the par-71, 6,550-yard Kilmarlic Golf Club with an 868 (+16) team total.
Yann Pfeiffer shot a 70 (-1) on the last day to climb into an individual tie for fifth. Pfeiffer started the final round with a score of even par (140) before shooting 70 for the fourth time in his career as a Zip, his career-best round.
George Baylis, who shot the Zips’ best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 2-under 69, finished 14th overall with 215 (+2). Ryan Harris added a 220 (+7) while Elliott Grayson and J.B. Williams rounded out the scoring with 223 (+10) and 225 (+12), respectively.
“I’m very proud of our guys this fall,” head coach David Trainor said. “Congratulations to Yann Pfeiffer for his top-five finish. He played well all three rounds. Some of our guys didn’t have their A-games this week, but they fought through it. Overall, it was a great tournament for us.”
The ODU/OBX Intercollegiate concludes the Zips’ fall season. Akron will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday, February 22-23, in Hilton Head Island, S.C., for the Wexford College Intercollegiate Tournament.
Women’s Soccer
The Akron women’s soccer team will host Buffalo (10-6-2, 6-3-1 MAC) today at 3 p.m. in a match that concludes the regular season for the Zips (6-11-1, 3-7).
The Zips are led by Sara Sivic with six goals and four assists and Katie George with five goals. Goal keeper Annabelle Hegeman has 70 saves on the season and an average of 1.76 goals allowed per contest.
With a win the Zips would secure a spot in the MAC tournament for the first time since 2011.
Volleyball
The University of Akron volleyball team (8-15, 2-8 MAC) hosts Buffalo (5-17, 4-6 MAC) today at 7 p.m. at James A. Rhodes arena in a conference showdown.
Akron is led by Amanda Bedell and Kelsey Wilson, who have 227 and 158 kills, respectively. Defensively, Brenna Mack and Dragana Micic have paced the Zips with 256 and 170 digs.
Akron currently ranks 14th in the country in total aces (149) as Kelsey Wilson ranks 35th individually with 34 aces. The Zips also rank 21st in the nation with 1.66 aces per set.
On Saturday, the Zips will travel to Toledo to take on the Rockets (4-19, 1-9 MAC) at 5 p.m. UA will be looking for its first victory at Toledo since 2007.
Swimming and Diving
Fresh off of its dual meet sweep of the University of Toledo and Ball State University last weekend, The University of Akron swimming and diving team travels south Friday evening to take on the Bobcats of Ohio University.
Men’s and Women’s Rifle
The University of Akron Rifle Team will host the 2015 Zippy Open Rifle Match held on the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range inside Schrank Hall South on Saturday and Sunday.
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country
The University of Akron men’s and women’s cross country teams host the Mid-American Conference Championship this Saturday at Canton Glen Oak Community Park. The men’s 8K race starts at 11 a.m., while the women’s 6K will start at noon.
