The University of Akron is in full construction mode.
There is no way to miss the noise, or the huge machines giving our campus a face lift, and though the construction would have been better if it could have been done when less students were here, it’s tolerable.
The walk ways to class near Carroll Hall have been blocked off, causing students to detour their normal paths in order to avoid the construction. For students that normally take this route, the construction is simply annoying, but the 20 extra yards one has to walk to avoid it isn’t unreasonable.
Students don’t want the noise, the annoyance or the congestion, but that’s the price we have to pay if we want UA to continue to make positive changes to the campus.
It would be better if UA could do this construction during the summer when less students are around, but by doing the Carroll Hall and InfoCision Stadium constructions at the same time, it is essentially killing two birds with one stone.
No one will complain once the construction is done and the campus looks 100-times better. That is, if you’re lucky enough to still be around for the football field’s opening.
Students should also be ecstatic that Carroll Hall is being torn down anyway.
How many times did you dread walking into that building knowing you had to take a test in the dreaded computer lab? Chances are you wished more than once that the building would be destroyed, and now you’re getting your wish.
Having to do construction during the middle of the semester isn’t the greatest time to get it done, but there really isn’t another time.
Take the good with the bad, and just be happy UA is committed to positive campus change.
