UA raises money for St. Jude Research Hospital
February 17, 2016
Zips for St. Jude celebrates 10 years of collectively raising more than $300,000 for the children of St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
For their main 2016 event, Zips for St. Jude held an all-nighter in the Student Union Ballrooms to raise funds from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.
Zips for St. Jude is a student organization that works to raise awareness and funds for St. Jude’s Research Hospital, a pediatric treatment center in Memphis, Tennessee. The hospital is one of the few in the U.S. where patients do not pay for treatments not covered by insurance. Patients without insurance are not required to pay at all.
Hosted by ZPN, the event featured live music mixed by WZIP DJs Yanni and Jules. UA Nuance, Kanga Blue a cappella, and Rhythm & Roos A Cappella also graciously provided entertainment for the participants.
The event also provided attendees with Syringe Painting, which is an art therapy activity at St. Jude.
The children were encouraged to express their feelings through artistic outlets, such as music or craft making.
“I was shocked at how long the event had been running. This year was it’s tenth year and I had an amazing time,” said participant and UA student Myler Acquaah. “Seeing as it was all student run, I was pleased with how organized it was and how so many people came together for a great cause.”
