University fraternity house is one of many local hauntings

“Near Halloween, it seems everybody has a ghost story to tell. Usually, the story is about someone’s uncle’s brother’s nephew who once encountered a cold breeze that he swears was a ghost. Lets be honest, those stories can be lame. But throughout Akron there are some haunted locations that are bit less dull.”

Near Halloween, it seems everybody has a ghost story to tell. Usually, the story is about someone’s uncle’s brother’s nephew who once encountered a cold breeze that he swears was a ghost. Lets be honest, those stories can be lame. But throughout Akron there are some haunted locations that are bit less dull.

It is important to note that the following locations are private property and should not be trespassed on without permission from the owner.

With that said, the first place in the Akron area that is said to be haunted is located near the University of Akron. It’s the well-known Hower House.

The Hower House is supposedly haunted by Mrs. Hower herself. Rumor has it, she witnessed her husband cheating on her and developed a disliking for males. All males. It is said that due to her aversion to men, she will haunt them when they are in her house.

Another haunted place is UA’s own TKE house.

The TKE house is supposedly haunted by a little girl.

The story goes, years ago, there was a little girl who lived in the house, and, when she died, she was buried in the backyard.

To this day, people claim to see her roaming around the yard.

UA isn’t the only school in the Akron area with hauntings; Hoban High School is another.

Before it was remodeled, part of the school used to be home to Brothers of The Holy Cross.

It is said during feast of their patron saint, Saint Joseph, the shadows of the brothers can be seen stalking the hallways.

The brothers’ shadows are never seen anywhere else besides the location of their old dormitories.

The Akron Civic Theatre has also had reports of a ghost.

The theatre is haunted by a protective ghost named Fred.

Fred was once a janitor who worked at there back when it was the Loews Theatre.

He died while on the premises, and this is where he has stayed ever since, protecting and caring for the theatre.

His protection and care have gone so far that people claim to have witnessed him attack vandals.

In the canal under the theatre, there have been sighting of another apperation. This time it’s an unknown young woman weeping. People claim to either see or hear her cry.

So, this Halloween while you’re out and enjoying a party or giving away trick-or-treats don’t be surprised if that person with the awesome translucent costume turns out to be a ghost.
