You name it, we have an office for it. There’s Student Health Services, the Career Center, the

Counseling Center, Financial Aid and many more. If a student has a problem, chances are there is

approach. The big issue is that a lot of students don’t realize these resources are available because

many of them exist in small, discrete offices around campus, not properly advertised to the student

There are endless problems a student may encounter that could be solved or prevented had a

student known where to go to fix it. Some of these problems create serious academic repercussions

make a mistake on your FAFSA without realizing it, you might not receive aid to help pay your

tuition if the mistake isn’t corrected in time. If someone would have told you there are financial aid

representatives in Simmons Hall who would be more than happy to walk you through the FAFSA

process, you wouldn’t have had to panic that you would be forced to drop out for a semester

Something needs to be done to more effectively share The University of Akron’s available

student support. While efforts are made to some degree by each particular department, it would be

helpful if all of our resources banded together once a semester to share the services offered. Perhaps

something to the effect of a Student Support Fair or presentation would be beneficial. Everyone

benefits from this; the faculty would be helpful to more students and students would get more help.
