They are looking for students who have the desire to help others while using their public speaking skills.
Peer advising provides numerous responsibilities, including outreach programs and presentations to the campus community through tabling events and classroom/student organization outreaches. Advisers also provide resume/cover letter critiques during walk-in hours.
The Career Center also routinely publishes the Career Link student newsletter and Career Corner in the Buchtelite, for which Advisers are responsible. There are also other creative projects, such as updating bulletin boards around campus and completing projects with media.
Students considering applying must have at least two semesters completed at The University of Akron and a GPA of 2.5 or better. Applicants should also have superior presentation and communication skills, an outgoing personality, and the ability to present information efficiently and interactively, take initiative and be comfortable working as part of a team.
A copy of the application packet can be downloaded from the Career Center’s website, www.uakron.edu/career or picked up in Simmons Hall 301. Resumes should be submitted along with the application, both of which are due to the Career Center by April 11 at 4:30 p.m.
