“Women’s History Month events kicked off Wednesday night with the folk-singer Catie Curtis and many more celebratory events are yet to come. Most men are probably thinking that this has nothing to do with them. This couldn’t be further from the truth. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

Women’s History Month is not necessarily only about women and the great things they have achieved, but also about equality of the sexes.

It isn’t about saying women are better than men.

Men can and should appreciate the things women have done in history and are doing now.

History is often written by those who have power, and for most of history, men held the power. This month is about recognizing her-story as well, whether you are male or female.

Without some of the accomplishments females have made, society would not be in a very good place.

Windshield wipers were invented by a woman, Mary Anderson, in 1903.

Radium was discovered by Marie Curie, who advanced x-ray technology.

Actar 911, a CPR mannequin, was invented by Dianne Croteau.

Amanda Theodosia Jones re-invented American food production by inventing vacuum packing.

That is just the tip of the iceberg of some of the great accomplishments that women have done.

Just imagine what we would do without windshield wipers on a stormy night, where medicine and science would be without x-rays, vacuum packed food to eat when we are far too busy to make real food or CPR to use when you are choking on previously mentioned food.

Let’s take some time and recognize what women have done. Express your gratitude for a female figure in your life, whether she is well-known or not.
