The Norwegian-born Watz was invited to teach and display his work at the university by two senior graphic design students, Nate and Kirk Mueller.

We made a proposal last year to bring in a newer, younger artist, Nate said.

Nate said they discovered Watz’s work by chance.

Marius writes a blog and writes about other artists and other artists write about him, Nate said. So it really was just a coincidence just bumping into his Web site.

All of this has been leading up to E.J. Mix, an event that is being described as a campus-wide European dance club party.

The evening will start at 7 p.m. with a lecture by Watz and University of Akron biologist Francisco Moore.

The party then begins at 8 p.m. when E.J. Thomas Hall is transformed into Akron’s version of a European dance club, with Watz’s work being displayed all night.

While admission to both the lecture and party afterwards is free, students can enjoy a cash bar while dancing the night away.
