Monday mornings are often greeted with grumbles and pleas for a trough of coffee.

However, this Monday is bound to be a different story for millions of people across the United States.

That’s right folks; St. Patrick’s Day is once again upon us.

The holiday when everyone is Irish, drinking at 10 a.m. is OK and just about every girl will have a Kiss me I’m Irish pin or shirt.

Here is a briefing on what to expect from some bars in the downtown area.

Barley House

The Irish bar is once again expected to be at full capacity this St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Barley will be partaking in both a Saturday and Monday St. Patrick’s day party.

The Pope actually moved St. Patrick’s Day from the 17th to the 15th because it conflicted with Holy Week, Hatzell said.

If a hearty breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, orange juice and mimosas sounds appetizing, consider heading down Saturday at 5:30 a.m. when they open. Or you can join radio station 98.1 WKDD on Monday at 7 a.m.

If that’s a bit early, then head down later and enjoy the corn-beef buffet they will be having from 11-4 p.m.

According to bar manager Ryan Hatzell, they are planning to have quite the crowd. Don’t be surprised if you wait until the end of the night only to find all the beer to be gone.

Joining in on the festivities will be several Irish bands. Saturday will feature, the Akron natives, Shaffer Brothers Band from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. then again from 4 – 10 p.m.

Monday will see the U2 cover band U2 Incident from 7 – 10 p.m.

Brubaker’s Pub

Another place to check out is Brubaker’s Pub.

This year you can expect to find drinks specials ranging from $8.50 drafts to $10.75 lucky leprechauns, which will provide you with about eight to 10 shots.

Erica Ward, day manager at Brubaker’s, said that they would be offering a free party bus. In which the bus will give you a chance to visit the area Brubaker’s Pubs.

If traveling past the downtown area is not an attractive thought, think about popping in and enjoy an eight-ounce corn-beef or a beef stew.

Lux

When evening comes, if you have managed to work your way through every bar downtown, don’t worry, just head over to Lux for their first St. Patrick’s Day party.

The doors to the popular nightclub will be opening at 4 p.m. on Monday according to Shawn Slater, Lux general manager.

Guests will be treated to Irish music and can choose from various drink specials throughout the night. Specials will including $1 Coors Light and Miller Lite, $3 Bombs and $2 Irish Apples, which Slater said is a mixture of Irish whiskey, sour apple and cranberry.

Slater said the reason to come to Lux is because they throw the best parties with the biggest crowds.

We’re just known for the spot for the holiday parties, Slater said

For a girl who may not be quite of legal drinking age don’t stress: admittance is 18 and up for young women, but 21 and over for guys. Just don’t forget to bring your I.D. with you.

Pints

If one finds themselves incapable of making the walk downtown it’s OK, just head over to Pints.

Manager and partial owner, Gary Hupp, said that he is expecting to be busy all day on St. Patrick’s Day.

With specials like $5 car bombs, $2 draft specials all day, Guinness dew, corn-beef and Ruben’s, everyone is bound to find something worth sampling.

Or consider joining them at 5:30 a.m. when they open for some kegs and eggs.

While St. Patrick’s Day is the mother of all drinking holidays, it is important to remember to be responsible and not drink and drive.

So go out and enjoy kegs and eggs, kiss that random person with the Kiss me I’m Irish pin and salute the great country that gave us this holiday.
