Students worldwide deal with having their hearts broken. The real question is how many recover from heartbreak?
Jackson Sturkey, a University of Akron student, dealt with a real heart break. Sturkey fell in love with someone who did not feel the same way for him. Sturkey had known this person since high school – about two-and-a-half years.
The closest thing I had to a functioning relationship was more a strong friendship than an actual relationship. I was a bad boyfriend just because I wasn’t very giving. I also wasn’t very taking. In my one and only relationship I was kind of there. I was doing the motions and was a perfect example of sometimes being there is not enough, said Sturkey.
Sturkey believed he was not going to see the beginning of 2011 because of being heartbroken.
It really messed me up. I haven’t seen this person since that conversation, aside from one night when I Facebook stalked them. I am ashamed of that, but it brought to my attention that I still love them. Will I want to contact them? No, I probably won’t ever talk to them ever again. It makes me think of a quote that I once read, ‘Her that I love, I wish to be free, even from me.’ The quote makes me feel like I have made the right choice in regard to the choice that I made to not to talk to them ever since my love confession, said Sturkey.
Sturkey described himself of having two men inside him, a rational and an emotional man.
We all have a pool of memories fishes fall into within a given time. The things we catch are peoples’ numbers or names. In this pond, I can’t see the fishes. I could spit on the water and they would come up. I would say that the rational man took the emotional man and drowned him there, said Sturkey.
Sturkey told himself that he was not going to love again. A few years have passed and he is starting to fall in love with someone again.
Love is like a cookie. One person has one half and the other has the other half. When you find that someone, you can hold up the cookie and put it together and it won’t crumble. I’ll pursue it when I find my other cookie, said Sturkey.
