Tuesday evening William Bonner of Akron allegedly assaulted Hillary Clinton supporters as they held signs showing their support for the democratic presidential hopeful.

According to Lt. Rick Edwards of the Akron Police department, Bonner approached the Clinton supporters and began beating them with their signs around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to Edwards there were two victims: a 61-year-old and 31-year-old male. Paramedics treated both on-site.

The suspect was located in Akron.

Our officers located the suspect, Mr. Bonner, he was over at the Haven of Rest… that’s where we apprehended him, Edwards said.

Bonner’s was charged with two counts of assault, molesting police property, disorderly conduct by intoxication and carrying a concealed weapon.

Bonner was found to be under the influence of alcohol and booked in the Summit County Jail.

Students for Hillary Clinton represenitive, Allison Rochford, was at the rally when they were allegedly attacked. However, she was not one that was attacked.

I was horrified, I didn’t know what was going on, Rochford said.

She said she believed Bonner was going after the Clinton signs but, was not completely sure.

Rochford said that one person suffered a sprained wrist but that was the worst injury allegedly inflicted by Bonner.

Everyone is OK, she said.

Coordinator for Students for Obama, Robert Niery, was shocked to hear about the alleged incident. They, however, have not had any problems while campaigning.

We have actually had nothing but support from students at the University of Akron, Niery said.

He also stated that he did not see any reason it would bring any reason for worry in future campaigning efforts.

To me that seems like a random act of violence, it could have happened to anybody. It gives me more of a reason to go out there and hope that Obama gets elected president.
