Yesterday afternoon I received a text message that simply stated Do not get gas on Friday May 2. This is an attempt to have a strike against the oil companies and get our gas price lowered. Send to everyone in your phone. Well, haven’t we tried this a few times and it didn’t work? It didn’t work for us and it didn’t work for the truck drivers. Instead the price just keeps getting higher.
Whoever the person was that originated this text message obviously did not watch President Bush’s speech yesterday on TV. He simply said that if he had a magic wand he would lower gas prices, but he doesn’t and there is nothing he can do to help right now. Why would he help? He owns oil himself. He is getting richer just like the CEO’s of the oil companies. He also stated that John McCain will continue on with this plan. That’s just great. While we sit and wait for Hillary and Barack to duke it out; McCain sits back and tells us he is going to keep troops in Iraq for 100 years, and he thinks Bush’s economic plan is perfect despite the plummeting unemployment rate and the dollar being at a historical low.
President Bush said the gas prices will force us to stop using our natural resources and find better energy solutions. Isn’t he the President of the United States? Why do we the people have to find these solutions? Oh, and lets not forget that not getting gas for one day is not going to make a difference. People are either going to get more gas the day before or the day after. Therefore, the oil companies haven’t lost a dime and we are in the same position. The only thing that would work is a gas boycott, but that will never happen because as usual we are lazy and cannot imagine walking somewhere. Besides how would we get to work and school?
Everyone should just get used to paying $4 a gallon because there is nothing that we are willing to do to stop it, and now if the government lowered it to $2.75 we would think that is a treat. I do agree that we need to find other ways to create energy that is affordable for everyone not just rich people who can afford to buy Hybrid cars, but until then we are stuck doing one day gas strikes and working overtime to pay for the gas that gets us to wherever we might be going.
