It’s a big win for the team and for the program and something we’ll use to boost our confidence, UA head coach Jodi Kest said. On paper we were the underdogs but that’s why you play the game.

Akron’s bench outscored the Wolverines (1-1) 38-11, including 12 points from senior Ashley Veal.

The Zips held Michigan to 23.3 percent (7-of-30) shooting in the second half and 28 percent (15-of-52) for the game.

I told the team before the game, as long as the people in this room believe we can win, Kest said, that’s all that matters.
