Ronnie Winter and Duke Kitchens started Red Jumpsuit Apparatus in 2003 in Middleburg, Florida and Elias Reidy, Joey Westwood and Jon Wilkes joined later. They released their first demo in 2004 and signed with Virgin Records in 2005.
It wasn’t, however, until 2006 when they released their mainstream singles from their Don’t You Fake It LP: Face Down, False Pretense and Your Guardian Angel. The album was gold certified, selling over 500,000 albums.
Their second album, Lonely Road, was released on Feb. 3, 2009. It debuted at the 14th spot on the Billboard 200. Before leaving the band, Reidy recorded the whole album.
Secondhand Serenade was started in 2004 by John Vesely in Menlo Park, California. He was a former bass player, however, he wanted to be able to serenade his wife so he dropped the bass and started the guitar.
In 2005 he released his first album, Awake. It was an acoustic album with multi-tracked vocals. Along with being a solo artist, he also writes all of his own songs.
The type of music on his second album, released in February of 2008, takes a turn. Although it may still be considered emo, A Twist in My Story features a full band. On this album, Vesely re-released Maybe and Your Call from Awake also with a full band, and included the RIAA certified Platinum single, Fall for You.
