The Zips traveled to Lincoln Nebraska last Friday for the Adidas Husker Classic and things did not go as according to plan. The women took on both Creighton University and The University of Nebraska over the weekend and lost to both teams.

On Sept. 11 the Zips faced Creighton University (7-1-1). The Zips could not get a goal all night and ended up and lost 3-0.

We played 18 – 18 well, but did not have the intensity in the boxes and against a very good team that hurt us, Zips Head Coach Chris Pfau said.

Scoring for Creighton was Kyla Hoskins with fifteen minutes and forty-three seconds, Emily Orbell sixty seven-eight seconds which was assisted by Beth Fyles and with the third goal was Andrea Zuniga in the eighty-eighth minute and fifty five seconds.

Leading Creighton in shots was Emily Orbell with six shots and helping out was Mary Zapapas with three shots. Beth Fyles had two shots and Brittney Neumann, Macy Mauer, Kyla Hoskins, Kelly Connolly, Andrea Zuniga and Gabriela Guillen had one shot apiece.

Good news for the Zips was that goaltender Jeny Wolbert played the whole game and had five saves. Britini Black led the team in shots with three and both Rachel Phillip and Alysia Virkler had a shot each.

We are not that far off from the next level teams, Pfau said. Both teams are ranked in the Region.

The University of Nebraska (4-1-1) gave the Zips a run for their money and won 7-1.

Nebraska is just a very talented team that very seldom loses at home, Pfau said. They are athletic all over the field and constantly puts you under pressure.

Even though the score was bad, it was better than last year. There were times we played

and looked good.

Morgan Marlborough led the Cornhuskers offensive attack with four goals. Molly Thomas added two goals and Carly Peet added one goal.

Rachel Philip scored the Zips only goal of the night with seventy-four and eleven seconds. Goaltenders Michelle Smith (6 saves) and Jeny Wilbert (1 save) both split time against Nebraska Michelle Smith played the majority of the game (67:45).

Rachel Philip and Jordan Baranowski had three shots apiece, while Ashley Hughes had two shots. With a shot a piece was Jordan Clark, Britini Black, Kristen Gregg, and Adrienne Knox.

The Zips are showing this year that they can compete with some of the top teams in the

Nation. Creighton who is 9th in the NSCAA Great Regional Poll and Nebraska just keeps on

Winning.

Last year we went to ODU and William and Mary and we came out scared and never played, Pfau said. This year we played and at times looked good.

They are starting to feel like they can play with these teams.

Next up for the Zips is The University of Cincinnati Bearcats and it is there last

Non-conference game.

The biggest is that we will be on the road for 3 straight weekends against very talented teams, Pfau said. That we stay focus and this is the last game before we get into Conference.

The first MAC game is September 25 against Eastern Michigan.
