UA enrollment numbers continue to rise
For the fourth consecutive year, the number of students enrolled at The University of Akron has gone up.
The official UA enrollment number, recently sent to the Ohio Board of Regents, was 27,911 students. This is a 7.6 percent increase from fall 2008, when the total number of enrolled students was 25,942.
With enrollment at UA rising 23 percent in the past five years, there has been an increase in the number of student credit hours being taken as well.
Since the fall of 2008, the number of student credit hours being taken has risen from 300,871 to 326,100.
There are currently, 21,742 full-time students attending UA.
There has also been a 6.4 percent increase in the number of UA freshmen. The total for this year, which is 4,542, has gone up by 34 percent in the past four years.
Bill Kraus, UA associate vice president of enrollment management, recently spoke about the increase in enrollment in the news and media section of UA’s Web site.
Kraus said, The increase in the freshmen class is generally coming from both the new-from-high school segment as well as from adult students.
Other segments that have seen a spike in enrollment since July 1 are continuing/returning students along with new students, Kraus said.
