Want to make a difference and take a literal step towards a good cause this weekend? Well this is possible as, this Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m., The University of Akron’s first annual 5k Walk for Breast Cancer will take place. The event is sponsored and put on by the Campus Cure for Cancer.
The walk, which is approximately 3.1 miles, is an opportunity to honor loved ones lost to breast cancer to honor those who have survived it and to support more research to find a cure.
The registration fee, which is a minimum donation of $10, will go towards two organizations: The Gathering Place and The National Breast Cancer Foundation. The Gathering Place is a local, non-profit, community-based cancer support center, and The National Breast Cancer Foundation, serves to educate others about breast cancer and provide mammograms to women who are in need of them. Each donor is allowed to specify which organization they wish to put their donation towards.
Registration is easy and can be done before, or the day of, the walk. To register before the walk takes place, simply go to www.campuscureforcancer.com and click on the ‘Registration Form’ button located on the right-hand side of the page. Complete the form and send it, along with your donation, checks can be made payable to Amanda Cole, The Gathering Place or The National Breast Cancer Foundation. Everything should be sent to Campus Cure for Cancer, 44 Castle Blvd. Akron, Ohio 44314. The first 100 people to pre-register will receive a free Campus Cure for Cancer 5k Walk T-shirt. If you do not pre-register for the walk, registration the day of will begin at 9 a.m. at the meeting location.
University students, faculty, and anyone of any age are encouraged to attend. Walkers will meet at the Carroll Common, which is positioned next to the Student Union, and near Starbucks.
