As every fashion lover knows, the holiday season, is about power-shopping, and not just for friends and family.

It is nearly impossible for one not to feel tempted to purchase at least one item for his or herself, especially this year, as a few internationally acclaimed designers are teaming up with chain stores to sell chic, lower-priced clothes to the masses.

For those looking to indulge in a bit of Yuletide selfishness, now is the perfect time to start planning which stores to invade, ransack and conquer.

Every year, fast-fashion chain store H&M hosts a special guest designer to create a lower-priced diffusion line for the store.

Past collaborators have included the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli and more recently, Rei Kawakubo.

This year, iconic designer Sonia Rykiel, who is best known for her fun and flirty Parisian aesthetic, was chosen to design a lingerie collection which will be sold in 1,500 H&M stores worldwide.

Though her line will not launch until Dec. 5, judging from the ads that have been released, the collection is mainly composed of romantic pieces that are equally parts naughty and nice.

In addition to the exclusive lingerie collection, Rykiel will also design a collection of her signature knitwear which will arrive in select stores on Feb. 20, 2010.

These are both great opportunities to snag a Rykiel design for a fraction of the price it would usually cost, but one must be quick, as in the past the designer lines have sold out almost immediately.

In addition to Rykiel’s collaboration with H&M, there is also another lower-priced designer/chain store partnership in works for this holiday season.

Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sister duo behind the cult-favorite brand Rodarte, are uniting with Target to design a limited edition collection for the Go International line.

The much-anticipated line, which hits stores Dec. 20, will consist of 55 pieces, the most expensive of which will be a leopard print jacket priced at $79.99.

Other pieces from the collection will include ’50s style party frocks, a sexy leopard print mini-dress, lace leggings, sassy lingerie, dresses and leopard bow belts – all perfect choices to wear to any holiday gathering.

The Mulleavy sisters are quickly taking the fashion world by storm with their keen eyes for detail, and with this limited time only collection, the mainstream American woman can now too enjoy their quirkily beautiful designs.

For the price, it is almost silly not to take advantage of the offer.
