Wednesday, the Ohio Senate removed Jack Morrison Jr. from the university’s board of trustees.

Gov. Ted Strickland turned to the Senate after Morrison refused to resign from his position. Calls for his resignation from both the university’s board of trustees and the Summit County Board of Elections came after his July 29 convictions on two misdemeanor ethics violations.

The Senate vote was 30-3.

Morrison’s position on the Summit County Board of Elections is still in jeopardy. Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has been seeking his removal from the board since early October. Morrison has refused to resign, and does not accept Brunner’s authority to remove him. Morrison told the Akron Beacon Journal that though he accepts his removal will happen, he plans to fight it in the courts. He also stated that Brunner’s biggest mistake was to put in writing that she has no choice but to remove me from the board. We’ll find out if she has the authority to do that or not.

Morrison has until Friday to respond to a hearing examiner’s report that states Brunner does have the authority to remove him from his position.
