Student victim of aggravated robbery

“A University of Akron student was the victim of an aggravated burglary on Tues., Feb. 2 in an apartment on Bellewood Avenue near Bellewood Court. The student opened the door when he heard someone knocking. The student was expecting friends to arrive and he thought that was who was at the door.”

A University of Akron student was the victim of an aggravated burglary on Tues., Feb. 2 in an apartment on Bellewood Avenue near Bellewood Court.

The student opened the door when he heard someone knocking. The student was expecting friends to arrive and he thought that was who was at the door.

Instead, a man with a hand gun was at the entered the apartment. The burglar stole a laptop, phone and a few other possessions and fled. The student was not physically harmed.

The burglar is described as a black male between the ages of 25-35 and around six feet tall. He was wearing dark clothes.

The city of Akron Police Department and the University of Akron Police Department request anyone with information regarding this event to contact the UA Police Department at 330-972-2911.

University and city police are working together to increase surveillance and preventative measures in the area.

If you notice anything unusual or suspicious at any time on or off campus, you are encouraged to report it to the university police at 330-972-2911.

Additional Safety Tips:

?Lock windows and doors at all times.

?Be aware of your surroundings. Travel in pairs, if possible.

?Program the UAPD phone number into your cell phone. It is 330-972-2911.

?Have the university police department conduct a free security survey of your house. UAPD officers will:

?Test the adequacy of your locking system;

?Study all entry points and offer suggestions to improve their security; and

?Offer tips about exterior lighting and other tactics to deter would-be criminals.
