The Bobcats are currently in last place in the Mid-American Conference East Division, while Akron sits in third only behind Miami of Ohio (11-14) and Kent State (13-12).
The games are slated to start on Saturday, April 3 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, April 4 at 1 p.m. at Lee Jackson field.
The Bobcats are currently coming off of a two game losing streak against Wright State.
Leading the offense for the Bobcats is senior outfielder Shalene Petrich with a .325 batting average and 7 RBI.
Another player to watch for is junior catcher/outfielder Jordan Paden, who currently has 3 home runs, 9 RBI and a .315 batting average.
The Zips go into conference play with some momentum as they won their last game against NCAA & T 4-3.
Offensively Akron is led by junior Alex Feltes, who has a team high .433 batting average and 7 RBI.
Following Feltes is Zips freshmen Alissa Birkhimer who leads the team with 10 RBI and also has 1 home run and a .377 batting average.
Junior Heather Bauer has posted a solid .327 batting average, with one home run and 8 RBI to round things off for the Zips.
As for pitching the Bobcats are led by freshmen Catlin Colvin with a 2.66 ERA and a record of 0-3.
Junior pitcher Emily Wethington leads the Bobcats in wins with a 4-6 record and is posting a 2.76 ERA.
Akron’s pitching staff is led by sophomore Andrea Arney who pitched three solid innings of relief to get the win against NC A & T last sunday.
I thought Arney did a good job coming in to win the game against NC A & T, said UA head coach Julie Jones.
Arney leads the team in wins with a 5-7 record and posts a 2.66 ERA with 49 strike outs.
Another pitcher to look out for is junior Alex Reideman who is posting a team high 1.76 ERA and a 1-2 record.
We are thrilled for Alex and her consistency on the mound thus far, Jones said.
Akron’s record against Ohio University last year was 2-1, including a 2-1win in extra innings in the MAC softball tournament.
The next time the Zips will return to Lee Jackson field will be on Tuesday, April 6 at 3p.m. and 5 p.m. when they complete their rained out doubleheader against Youngstown State.
