Zips swept at Miami

“After defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday night, the Zips lost three straight games this weekend to their MAC rival the Miami RedHawks. The Zips lost on Sunday to the RedHawks 5-16. We lost two tough games on Friday and Saturday and we did not shut down a big inning on Sunday.”

Zips ight fielder Jake Plata, catcher John Turk, third baseman Sam Trecaso and pitch hitter Jason Corzine had an RBI a piece.

Right fielder Adam Eaton of the RedHawks had four RBI against the Zips in Sunday’s game.

Sunday’s game saw the Zips use five pithcers. Kevin Kumazec pitched the most of any pitcher going three innings. He gave up only one hit and two strikeouts to the 10 batters he faced.

Benjamin Danziger pitched two innings and took the loss for the Zips. Zach Yike, Danny Fawcett and Drew Turocy all pitched one inning a piece.

We had to extend him longer in relief on Friday’s game and Miami did a good job in finding holes with ground balls and we had the one defensive mishap in one inning that led to a four run inning, Bangston said.

Mac Thoreson of the RedHawks was credited with the win as he pitched eight innings against the Zips. Thoreson pitched only seven hits, three strikeouts and three runs to the 32 batters he faced.

Saturday’s game was closer than Sunday’s game for the Zips as they only lost to the RedHawks 7-4.

The season has been very tough, Bangston said, I was very proud of our players in the fact that they came back to tie the game in the ninth inning to give ourselves an opportunity to win, Bangtson said.

Plata, first baseman Kyle Hallett, infielder Brandon White and Turk had an RBI a piece.

First Baseman Kyle Weldon led the offensive attack for the RedHawks with three RBI.

Scott Foster took the loss for the Zips after he pitched five innings with six hits, two strikeouts against the 20 batters he faced.

Brooks Fiala pitched the first four innings for the RedHawks and ended the day with six hits, two runs, three strikeouts against the 18 batters he faced.

The Zips stayed in contention in Friday night’s game which went into 12 innings but the Zips would lose to the Redhawks 6-5.

Shortstop Kevin Haas led the offensive attack for the Zips with two RBI.

Leading the offensive attack for the Redhawks was Weldon and designated hitter Jordan Jankowski with two RBI apiece.

Andrew Brown took the loss for the Zips as he pitched eight innings with nine hits, five runs, two strikeouts, at 32 at bats.

Tyler Melling was credited with the win for the Redhawks as he pitched seven innings with 10 hits, four runs, three strikeouts against the 30 batters he faced.

The Zips, who dropped three straight now are only 2-17 in MAC play. The Zips are now currently 16-22 for the season overall.

We need to improve upon all facets of the game, Bangtson said.

The Zips will return home to Lee Jackson field Tuesday as they take on Malone. Game time is set for 3 p.m. The Zips will take on the Youngstown State University Penguins April 28 at Lee Jackson Field at 3 p.m..
