Unity Celebration brings diverse focus to campus

By: David Sickels

Unity Celebration, an event in coordination with Race Week, took place in the Student Union Monday to explain ways individuals perceive topics such as unity and diversity.

Speaker Lee Gill from the University diversity department spoke to students about making The University of Akron an overall more inclusive place. He said everyone should be thinking of different ways to help others grow.

Students were given the opportunity to make “unity collages” using magazines, construction paper and crayons. Students also cut out hand prints and wrote their personal meaning of the word “unity.”
