This Thursday, Nov. 19, the Zips will hit the road and go to Pennsylvania to take on the Robert Morris Colonials (0-1).
The Colonials are coming off a loss from last Friday. They lost to Zips MAC conference rival the Kent State Golden Flashes 62-57.
Ellie Shields and Rachel Bennet lead the Colonials in points with 14 a piece, Yoshica Spears leads the Colonials in rebounds with eight and Jamilah Humes and Rachel Bennet lead the Colonials in assists with six a piece.
Chenel Harris, Rachel Bennet and Yoshica Spears have one block a piece for the Colonials.
The Colonials are 20-44 from the court, 8-13 from behind the Arc. The Colonials also have 35 rebounds, 16 assists, four blocks and three steals for the season.
In the last 10 meetings the Zips hold an 8-2 record.
On Sunday, Nov. 22 the Zips will stay in Ohio to take on the Wright State Raiders (0-1), from the Horizon league.
Coming off a loss to IPFW 83-67, the Raiders will take on Eastern Kentucky Colonels (0-1) on Thursday Nov. 19.
Players to watch out for on the Raiders are LaShawna Thomas who leads the Raiders in points with 22, and shot blocker Ta-myra Davis who has two blocks this season, Kanisha Davis who has four assists this season.
The Zips are coming off a 1-1 record in which they defeated IUPUI 63-49 and loss to St. Bonaventure 37-67.
The Zips so far have scored 100 points, recorded 13 steals and have 59 rebounds for the season.
The starting lineup for the Zips is senior point guard Ayla Guzzardo, junior shooting guard Amber Witt, junior small forward Kara Murphy, senior Jolene Tamboue and sophomore center Kyle Baugmartner.
Junior forward team captain, Kara Murphy currently leads the Zips in scoring with 20 and also has nine rebounds.
Sophomore center Kyle Baumgartner has recorded one block, 10 rebounds,and 15 points.
Kyle gives us potential, she has the potential to be a 20-30 point player for us, Zips head Coach Jodi Kest said.
Point guard Ayla Guzzardo is currently leading the Zips with six assists.
Coming off the bench for the Zips is freshman forward Rachel Tecca who has nine rebounds, sophomore point guard Natasha Williams three assists, freshman shooting guard Katie Bubna has three points, sophomore Denver McLean leads the team in blocks with two, sophomore Jasmine Mushington who has 15 points, and one steal by freshman shooting guard Taylor Ruper.
We are lucky to have the bench we have, if one or two of us (starters) go down, we have the players to fill in, Zips junior small forward Kara Murphy said.
After this weekend’s games the Zips will travel down to Fla. to participate in the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament in Fort Myers, Florida. The next time the Zips will play home in James A. Rhodes arena is on Dec. 2 against IPFW
