Well-known chef and pumpkin carving expert Chef Richard Alford reveals some techniques to carving the perfect pumpkin this Halloween. Alford gave the following tips about pumpkin carving so pumpkin creations look good when finished and the students carving them remain safe.
Chef Richard Alford, who has been on television before will be in Rhode Island this weekend to film for the Food Network’s show Glutton for Punishment.
This Friday he will be on channel 8 carving a pumpkin on the Morning Show.
Last weekend, Alford was in Delhi, New York, at an American Culinary Federation Culinary Salon doing vegetable carving. He won a mystery basket containing pumpkins and scored a gold medal.
Along with public engagements, Alford is a chef at the Crystal Room restaurant on campus and is the advisor for the Garde Manger club at the University of Akron for people interested in carving things like ice and vegetables.
The Garde Manger club is interested in learning and doing the art of cold and artistic culinary. It does ice carving, pumpkin carving and artistic culinary feats.
It’s not that simple. On Nov. 3, I have to do the face of the CEO of a hospital in a pumpkin,Alford said.
We do pumpkin sculpture more than pumpkin carving. We deal with the meat of the pumpkin.
