Tomorrow, Oct. 21, is Love Your Body Day and to celebrate, L.I.P. Service, a student group which promotes gender equity and raises awareness for women’s issues, will be having a special bake sale.
Invented by N.O.W., the National Organization for Women, Love your Body Day is meant to bring attention to all body types and actively combat the extremely thin, unhealthy body ideal that the media and fashion world promote.
The day is aimed at people all over the world and broadcasts the belief that everyone should appreciate and love the skin they are in, no matter which age, race, sex or size.
In addition, this month is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is dedicated to increasing awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection. In order to commemorate both of these highly important events, and also to support a happy, healthy, comfortable body image for all people everywhere, L.I.P.
Service will be holding a bake sale today from 5 to 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 11:30 until 4 p.m. in Olin Hall.
Provocative cookies in the shapes of certain body parts, as well as highly detailed chocolate lollipops in the form of a certain female anatomy and vegan treats will be sold and information on self-examination for breast and testicular cancer will also be handed out.
The cause is good and the treats will be naughtily delicious, so please come to Olin and help support both Love Your Body Day and L.I.P. Service.
In addition to the bake sale, L.I.P. Service will also be throwing a Halloween party this Friday, Oct. 23, in collaboration with M.A.M.A. (Mothers Achieving More Academically) in Student Union Room 335 from 6 to 8 p.m. Food and drinks will be provided and games are on the agenda.
Though costumes are optional, there will be a costume competition for which one must dress up as their favorite gender equity hero.
Anyone from Queen Elizabeth II to Superwoman is acceptable. Children are welcome, as are any other guests.
