Women’s soccer looks to clip Redhawks
November 4, 2015
Fresh off last weekend’s upset of the top-seeded team in the Mid-American Conference tournament, The University of Akron women’s soccer team looks to advance further.
On Friday, Nov. 6, the Zips will face fifth-seeded Miami University of Ohio at the WMU Soccer Complex at 11 a.m. on the campus of Western Michigan University. The second game of the day will pit No. 3 seed Buffalo against No. 2 seed Western Michigan.
The winners of each match will then play on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. in the MAC championship game.
Miami, who beat fourth-seeded Kent State University in penalty kicks last weekend, won the only game played between the two teams back on Sunday, Oct. 25, in Oxford, Ohio, 3-0.
The Zips outshot the Redhawks 13-11 for the game, but was only able to get two of them on goal compared to seven for Miami.
Akron is led by Sarah Sivic’s six goals and Katie George’s five. Rachel Baughman and Sivic each have four assists to top the team.
In goal, Annabelle Hegemen has started 19 of 20 games and carries a 1.72 goals against average and has posted 81 saves on the year. The 81 saves puts Hegemen third on the all-time list for saves in a season.
A Zips victory would put them in the MAC championship game for the first time in the program’s history.
