Prepare to be slimed for charity
December 2, 2015
Imagine seeing your favorite Zip covered in oozing slime in the Student Union Starbucks Lounge. Now it’s a possibility with ZPN and Zips for St. Jude’s third annual slime event on Dec. 3 from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Students, staff, and faculty get to choose from a list of people who will get slimed and from that list three willing individuals will have slime dumped all over them. The choices include:
- David Vale, assistant director of Campus Programs
- Chelsea Phipps, intramural sports manager
- Larry Burns, vice president of Advancement
- John Messina, vice president of Student Affairs
- Todd Simmons, Campus Programs student assistant
- Taylor Swift, president of Undergraduate Student Government
- Mandy Pinheiro, 2015 homecoming queen
- Ali Doehring, assistant director of Student Life
- Lakeesha Ransom, dean of the Honors College
- John MacDonald, director of Student Recreation and Wellness Services
- Zack Steiner, assistant director of Off-Campus Student Services
Attendees can also enjoy free food and win prizes while they are there.
Kylee Eager, a UA senior and a member of the executive board for Zips for St. Jude, says the group’s goal is to raise $25,000 by Feb. 12, 2016. All proceeds go directly to the St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
St. Jude is a nonprofit pediatric treatment and research facility based in Memphis, Tennessee; the hospital focuses on children’s diseases. Uninsured families are never asked to pay for treatment.
“It is so satisfying learning about the hospital and helping the kids out who are admitted there. I’ve grown a soft spot for those children who are so brave fighting off cancer,” Eager said.
