Fundraiser for Haitians; every ‘penne’ counts
April 20, 2016
Enjoy spaghetti and support a good cause on Monday, April 25. The second annual Spaghetti Dinner, hosted by Zips for Haiti, is raising funds to bring Haitian students to The University of Akron.
Money raised will benefit Haitian students in attending UA for a four-year term.
The spaghetti dinner will also have a silent auction, coffee sampling, music, and a raffle available for attendees.
Zips for Haiti started after 15 UA students returned from a trip abroad to Haiti, according to the group’s president Callie Mack.
“Zips for Haiti has become a community of like-minded friends and leaders dedicated to creating a scholarship for a Haitian student to study at UA,” Mack said.
This Monday’s fundraising event will run from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Christ Community Chapel (CCC), located at 750 W. Streetsboro St. in Hudson, OH.
This is the second year that the Spaghetti Dinner has been at the chapel. Mack said that CCC is a good location because of its size and the relationship Zips of Haiti has with the CCC staff.
“Our partnership with CCC is rooted in our mutual desire to serve others,” Mack said.
Mack went on to say that Zips for Haiti welcomes all students who want to serve on a global level and provides a platform for UA students to get involved.
Mack says she wants to help make a difference in Haiti.
“I like being a part of Zips for Haiti because it makes me feel like I belong to something greater than myself. I believe that together, Zips for Haiti can accomplish anything,” she said.
