Jack Morrison Jr. is having a rough year.
Morrison is a member of the University of Akron’s Board of Trustees and the Summit County elections board, but if state leaders have their way, Morrison will be stepping down from both of these positions.
Earlier this year, Morrison was found guilty of two misdemeanor ethics violations, revolving around a loan he made to his son enabling him to purchase a home near the university’s campus. The university later bought the home as it began construction on InfoCision Stadium.
Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has called for Morrison’s resignation from the board of elections. In a letter to Morrison, Brunner explained that because of his July conviction, she could not allow Morrison to continue to serve on the board.
Brunner has given Morrison until Oct. 14 to resign. Morrison, however, has refused to step down from his post. According to him, he doesn’t see a reason.
If he doesn’t, he will face an administrative meeting before Brunner.
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, along with Eric Fingerhut, the chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, has also called for Morrison to step down from the university’s board of trustees.
Strickland plans to ask the state Senate to remove Morrison from his position.
When asked about the situation, Laura Massie, the university’s director of media relations, said, That’s not something the university is commenting on.
