Rhythm and music were all around as students were taught how to salsa dance by the hosts for this event, Salsa and Bachata instructors Lee El Gringuito Smith and Kat Aguilar.
Bachata is a dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. It can be either a choreographed routine or one that is improvised. Salsa dancing is a form of Bachata dancing. It is often associated with romance and heartbreak.
Some graduates may imagine that their careers will take off once they get themselves out of Ohio, while others uncover their own opportunities right here in Akron.
Modern dancer and UA graduate Kelli Sanford has done just that by creating her own nonprofit modern dance company based in Akron.
The colorful, awe- inspiring dance illusions of MOMIX “Botanica” roused a standing ovation from the audience Saturday night at Akron’s E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall.
The magical movements of “Botanica” were part of a collaborative effort by The University of Akron and DanceCleveland.
The University of Akron dance program began the collaboration of this event with DanceCleveland over two years ago. It was decided by both organizations that a multifaceted performance with non-traditional dance moves was ideal for their audience. Both organizations agreed that the MOMIX dance company would fit the bill.
