Robbery reported south of campus

Katelyn Freil

Students were alerted via safety advisory early Saturday of an armed robbery south of campus.

According to the report sent out over email to UA students, no one was physically harmed in
the robbery, which occurred around 11 p.m. Friday night.

Paul Callahan, the assistant vice president of campus safety, said that the victim went out to his driveway to smoke when the suspects approached.

The victim said he was robbed by two males, according to the report sent out to students.

The official police report went on to state that the victim’s items were removed by force when one of the suspects displayed a handgun.

The report described the first robber as a bearded black male around the age of 20, who was wearing baggy jeans and a hoodie. He stood about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed about 160 pounds. The second was described as a clean-shaven black male between the ages of 20 and 25, wearing a gray hoodie and baggy pants.

Callahan gave some tips for students if they are ever involved in a situation like this, which included always being aware of your surroundings and not walking by yourself
at night.
“Put yourself in a position where you feel safe,” Callahan said.

If students want to share information on a crime they have witnessed or know anything about a crime that has been committed, they are encouraged to contact the police. Students can call the university police at (330) 972-2911. Students can also submit a tip confidentially by going online to tipsubmit.com, or sending the tip in a text to 274637 (CRIMES) with “ZIPTIP” at the beginning.

If you are deciding whether or not to call to police, Callahan provided a good way to decide: “If the hair on the back of your neck stands up, call us.”
