Apparently, some at Akron Animal Control find it necessary to abuse dogs that show no inclination of attacking, as I witnessed Monday afternoon.

While I was at my house on Bellewood Avenue, just a few blocks off campus, I noticed an Animal Control employee committing one of the most disgusting acts I have ever seen: animal abuse.

The Animal Control employee continually beat a dog with his billy-club while also dragging the dog across the ground as it shrieked and yelped in pain. This went on for several minutes until observers intervened.

I could understand if this was a rabid pit bull trying to rip his legs off, and the employee was protecting himself, but in this instance, the dog never made any attempt to attack the man.

There is no reason for any employee of Animal Control to be abusing animals in such a manner, and whoever did such a barbaric act needs to be fired and prosecuted.

As someone who couldn’t care less for PETA, I hope they get a hold of this case.
